Career Tias is a mentoring program for budding tech professionals in the startup community of TechLando!
Founded by Melanie Feliciano, a Mickey Rican SEO Multimedia Storyteller, and Martha Hernandez, a Chingona Techie who built a human resources platform called Madebos, Career Tias offers virtual and in-person skill-building workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and connections to paid gigs and employment.
These two women met at the Wonder Women Tech conference in California in November 2019, where they spoke on a LatinX panel about the power of mentorship in building a career.
After the Wonder Women Tech summit, the pandemic hit, so in May 2020, Melanie focused on her seven “sobrinos” between the ages of 4-15 in Orlando, Fla. They focused on math, web site design and development, video editing and animation.
In Spring 2021, they created Avelle.store on Etsy, which showcases their handmade products.
CareerTias was also included in a GalTech Talks interview and in the 2021 Wonder Women Tech LatinX Summit.
By 2022, UrbanAlliance.org, a nonprofit organization that places high school students in paid internships, became a Georgic Media client.
In 2023, we published Model Ricans, a Wattpad multimedia novel, to show the typical challenges and trajectory of a Latina coming up in an Orange County public school in the late 1980s and early 90s. The main character spends most of her time feeling invisible and doing everything in her power to be seen, and matriculate past high school with math classes.

The demographics of public schools have changed since the 1980s in Orlando and the rest of Florida, and we are here to assist, especially now that we are becoming a mentor for Latinas in Tech and the Super Invisible Latinas in Data. If you are a person who didn’t go to private school or a fancy university looking for opportunities to work in STEM, we would love to become your Career Tia and direct you to toward your correct path.
This is a project of Georgic Media, LLC, hence there is no charge for this mentoring service. As mentees ourselves, we understand that true mentorship is a mixed bag of coaching, therapy, skill building, brainstorming, and regular check-ins.
